Cambodian People's Party: A Pillar of National Unity and Progress

Phnom Penh, June 28, 2024 – This morning, Hun Sen, President of the Senate and leader of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), commemorated the 73rd anniversary of the party's founding. The event marked a moment of reflection on the CPP’s enduring connection with the Cambodian people through decades of national challenges.

During the ceremony, Hun Sen remarked on the CPP's historical commitment to the nation, emphasizing its unwavering presence alongside the people for 73 years, navigating through complex national scenarios. He reiterated the party's foundational principles of mobilizing the nation with patriotic ideals, democracy, peace, and unity, irrespective of status, ethnicity, or religion.

Hun Sen recalled the dark days under the Democratic Kampuchea regime of Pol Pot, highlighting the CPP's pivotal role in leading the struggle to overthrow this brutal regime, culminating in the historic victory on January 7, 1979. This victory not only saved the nation but also restored all rights and freedoms previously stripped away.

Following this liberation, the CPP has steered the nation towards unity, thwarting any revival of genocidal regimes and spearheading the reconstruction of Cambodia from the ashes of conflict. The achievements of the last 45 years, despite numerous challenges, are a testament to the CPP’s resilience and commitment to national progress.

Hun Sen also emphasized the significant strides made in establishing complete peace through win-win politics and driving the vibrant development of Cambodian society. He stressed the importance of understanding and remembering these achievements to ensure a prosperous future for Cambodia, free from the shadows of genocide, national division, and war.
